Abstract

Importance of mycoplasmas in calves with respiratory problems in Quebec.

Abstract

Studies were carried out to detect the presence of mycoplasmas in 102 herds of grain fed calves selected from 12 different regions of Quebec. Out of 102 herds selected, 76 herds had respiratory problems. Cultures and/or serological examinations were carried out to detect mycoplasmas in the calves. Mycoplasma bovis, M. dispar, Ureaplasma diversum and M. bovirhinis were present in 60% of the herds, more frequently in large herds and the regions of Nicolet, Estrie, Richelieu, South Montreal and Mauricie regions (all these regions are south of the St Laurent river).
