Abstract

Study on the control of Carposina nipponensis using entomopathogenic nematode Taishan 1 (Heterorhabditis sp.).

Abstract

Entomophilic nematodes Taishan 1 (Heterorhabditis sp.) were sprayed once or twice at 1 million nematodes/m2 in each spray on apple orchards totalling 200 mu [1 mu=0.067 ha] for control of Carposina nipponensis [C. sasakii] in Jiangsu, China. The results showed that the nematode caused 92% mortality and consequently reduced the proportion of damaged fruits to 0.3%, which is significantly lower than the 4.3% obtained by using mixtures of 1% parathion + 3% trichlorfon.
