Abstract

A summary of trials in Turkey oak [Quercus cerris] coppices in central Italy, which focuses on economic returns from coppicing compared with timber from high forest logging, and expected returns during the conversion period. Merchantable volumes, at an age of about 80 yr, are estimated at between 270 and 480 m3/ha, of which fuelwood would comprise about 48%, saw logs 15%, veener logs 25% and bolts 12%.
