Detailed coverage of invasive species threatening livelihoods and the environment worldwide

Abstract

Biology and ecology of Amblyomma variegatum in Guadeloupe and its importance in eradication strategy.

Abstract

The ecology of A. variegatum in Guadeloupe is described, and prospects for the eradication of this introduced species from the Caribbean are discussed under these headings: feeding time of adult A. variegatum and rhythm of treatment; sites of attachment of adult ticks and anatomical areas that must receive a special acaricidal pressure; specificity of the tick for different hosts and animals that must be treated; tick geographical distribution and areas to be treated; maximum longevity of the free stages and duration of an eradication campaign.
