Plant parasitic nematodes associated with tree crops in Liberia.
Application of 1 g carbofuran at 5% a.i./plastic bag controlled Xiphinema ifacolum and Helicotylenchus pseudorobustus in tree nurseries. X. ifacolum affected, although inconsistently, growth of cocoa, lime and Citrus volkameriana, but not of soursop (Annona muricata), cashew or Cleopatra mandarin in pot experiments. It appeared to be pathogenic on "Robusta' coffee. The nematode reproduced actively on C. volkameriana and survived on cocoa. X. longicaudatum suppressed growth of "Robusta" coffee, but did not reproduce on it nor on lime to which it was not pathogenic. X. ifacolum increased on sweet orange and H. pseudorobustus reproduced only on cocoa.
