Abstract

Plants which have become naturalized in the Mediterranean basin are listed with the region and date of introduction or first mention. The ecological, biological and phytogeographical aspects of invasion are discussed. Plants that are widely distributed already include Amaranthus spp., Anagallis arvensis, Aster squamatus, Avena sterilis, Capsella bursa-pastoris, Chenopodium murale, Convolvulus arvensis, Conyza spp., Cyperus esculentus, Echinochloa crus-galli, Euphorbia spp., Oxalis spp., Paspalum paspalodes [P. distichum], Raphanus raphanistrum, Sinapis arvensis, Solanum nigrum and Sorghum halepense.
