Abstract

Identification of a second mating population within the Fusarium moniliforme anamorph of Gibberella fujikuroi.

Abstract

Four mating populations, each associated with a distinct asexual stage (anamorph), are presently recognized within G. fujikuroi. A fifth mating population, termed G. fujikuroi mating population F, was identified correlated with the F. moniliforme anamorph. Female-fertile tester strains were developed that permit reliable detection of other members of this mating population through sexual crosses made under lab. conditions. Members of this mating population are widely distributed geographically and have been recovered from several states in the USA, China, Thailand and South Africa.
