Estimating yield losses in potato due to bacterial wilt caused by Pseudomonas solanacearum.
Accurate quantification of yield loss from this disease has not been determined. The types of losses caused are described and current practices to determine disease intensity and assess losses are reviewed. Methodology for more detailed quantification of yield loss is proposed. Analysis of data from screening experiments indicated linear relationships between yield loss and disease intensity as well as between plant wilt and tuber rot intensities. Multiple regression analysis showed that yield loss/unit increase of disease intensity was similar in 3 experiments conducted in different years and countries.
