Status of diseases of linseed in the UK.
A total of 15 fungal diseases of linseed, are described with details of symptoms and life cycle, an evaluation of their present status in the UK and an outline of possible control methods. The most important pathogens are thought to be Alternaria linicola, Fusarium spp., Botrytis cinerea and Oidium lini. Problems of assessing disease in linseed crops are outlined. Seed-treatment and certification, breeding for resistance and the effects of disease on soil quantity and quality are considered. Recommendations are made for future research.
