Abstract

Some ecological studies on papaya ringspot virus in Ranchi.

Abstract

The spread of papaya ringspot potyvirus in a pawpaw plantation was erratic. The virus infected 8 plant species in the Chenopodiaceae, Cucurbitaceae and Solanaceae. Of 11 aphid species recorded from this part of Bihar, Aphis gossypii, A. craccivora and A. citricola [A. spiraecola] were the most common and were also efficient vectors of the virus. Attempts to demonstrate soil transmission through nematodes were unsuccessful. No seed transmission was detected in pawpaw.
