Aquatic weeds in the Philippines: a general assessment of scenario.


Situations that give rise to aquatic weed problems (mainly involving Eichhornia crassipes, Hydrilla verticillata, Pistia stratiotes, Vallisneria sp. and Azolla pinnata) in the Philippines, and the benefits to man and aquatic ecosystems of these weeds, are outlined. The aquatic weed concerns of various institutions and governmental bodies, and research and development needs in this field in the Philippines are also listed.
