Using the indirect haemagglutination test, serum samples from 554 alpacas, 141 llamas, 62 vicuna, 559 goats and 110 sheep from the Andean region of Peru, were tested for antibodies to Mycoplasma mycoides mycoides, Mycoplasma capricolum, and the F38 biotype. 134 animals were positive for M. m. mycoides: 28 (5%) alpacas, 22 (15%) llamas, 1 (1.6%) vicuna, 77 (13%) goats, and 6 (5.5%) sheep. 27 were positive for M. capricolum: 5 (0.9%) alpacas, 1 (1.6%) vicuna, and 21 (3.8%) goats. 12 were positive for F38: 1 (0.2%) alpaca, 10 (1.8%) goats, and 1 (0.9%) sheep. Most of the positive animals were part of a flock from the department of Cusco, and a few were from flocks in Puno and Arequipa.
