Abstract

Introduction and establishment of Leptomastix dactylopii How. against Planococcus spp. in India.

Abstract

The encyrtid parasitoid Leptomastix dactylopii was introduced into India in 1983 and reared in the laboratory on Planococcus citri, P. lilacinus and P. pacificus [P. minor], and 15 700 adults were released at 11 sites in 1983-85 for the biological control of these 3 mealybug species on mandarins and coffee. The parasitoid became established within 2 months and there was evidence that it was spreading and causing up to 100% parasitism. Although all 3 mealybugs were attacked in the laboratory, L. dactylopii appeared to be specific to P. citri in the field.
