Mealybugs of Central and South America.
This taxonomic work discusses 282 species and 49 genera of Pseudococcidae known to occur in Central and Southern America. Keys to the genera and species are provided, accompanied by 281 illustrations of 269 species. Brief accounts are given of the background to the study and the economic importance and morphology of the pseudococcids. The distribution of each species is recorded for this area and food plant records are listed. The work is designed to help anyone engaged in quarantine inspection to assess the importance of the species and to facilitate the location of natural enemies if any of the pseudococcid pests were to be accidentally introduced to another area. New taxa, comprising 5 new genera and 62 new species, are described and several new synonymies are proposed.
