Abstract

Outbreak of mealybugs and record for their natural enemies on pomegranate.

Abstract

During a survey of pomegranate orchards around Bangalore, Karnataka, India, in 1986-98, the pseudococcids Planococcus lilacinus, P. citri and Nipaecoccus viridis were recorded. Of 6 natural enemies observed in 1987, the predators Spalgis epius [S. epeus] and Cryptolaemus montrouzieri cleared P. lilacinus on fruits. It is suggested that the encyrtid Leptomastix dactylopii, recorded attacking P. citri, and C. montrouzieri should be used in biological control trials.
