Abstract
Study of two forms of Megastigmus suspectus Borries (Hym. Torymidae).
Abstract
Electrophoretic and morphometric studies of two forms of Megastigmus suspectus (suspectus and pinsapinis) were carried out, using insects collected in France and Algeria. The geographic distribution and specificity of these forms are also discussed. The forms differed in their biology, distribution and food plants. M. suspectus form suspectus was found on Abies alba and other Abies species, while M. suspectus form pinsapinis was found on Abies pinsapo, A. nordmanniana and Cedrus spp. Only 3 plants, A. alba, A. nordmanniana and A. pinsapo, were attacked by both forms. It is concluded that M. pinsapinis is a good species and a description of this species is given.
