Abstract

A report is presented of the most serious insect pests attacking tomato crops in Pernambuco, Brazil. Details of the morphology, life cycle, symptoms of attack and control measures for Tetranychus evansi, the eriophyid Aculops lycopersici, the noctuids Heliothis zea [Helicoverpa zea], Agrotis ipsilon and Pseudoplusia oo [Chrysodeixis includens], the gelechiid Scrobipalpula absoluta and the agromyzid Liriomyza sativae are included. The economics of tomato growing in the region as well as the best planting dates are discussed.
