Comparative study of padi yield loss due to Echinochloa crus-galli infestation and Leptocorisa oratorius attacks.
Studies at Bumbong Lima, in 1985-86, showed that L. oratorius initially fed on E. crus-galli, which was present with direct-sown rice, before the rice itself. Damage to rice caused by L. oratorius in weed-free plots was double that in plots with E. crus-galli present and more L. oratorius individuals were counted in weed free plots (av. 4-13 insects/5 hills) than in plots with E. crus-galli (av. 1-8 insects). E. crus-galli caused greater reduction in rice yields than L. oratorius.
