Nucleotide sequences of the 7K gene of carnation latent virus.
The nucleotide and amino acid sequence of the 7K gene of carnation latent carlavirus is presented. The open reading frame consists of 197 nucleotides, with the deduced polypeptide containing 65 amino acids. A comparison of the predicted amino acid sequence of the CLV 7K peptide with the equivalent peptides of other carla- and potexviruses is shown. It is speculated that these proteins may play a role in cell-to-cell virus movement and that variation at the N- and C-termini may be implicated in host specificity and/or the ability to infect systemically.
