Detailed coverage of invasive species threatening livelihoods and the environment worldwide

Abstract

Epidemiological and serodiagnostic survey of contagious agalactia of sheep and goats in eastern Algeria.

Abstract

This paper, submitted in September 1989, reports the results of a serological survey, using the CF test and ELISA, in flocks and herds suspected of the disease, in 8 Departments of eastern Algeria. Of the 372 serum samples tested, 28% were positive by ELISA for Mycoplasma capricolum, 23% for M. mycoides mycoides, and 17% for M. agalactiae. The low titres, and failure to isolate the organisms from 80 milk samples, indicated that the survey was carried out during a period of decline of the disease, after the culling of affected animals and widespread antibiotic treatment.
