Abstract

Products from the tree legume Albizia lebbeck as supplements for sheep in the dry tropics.

Abstract

Merino wethers were given a basal diet of Stylosanthes hamata cv. Verano and medium-quality hay for 6 weeks without or supplemented with 100 g daily of fallen leaves, green leaves, intact pods or fallen flowers of Albizia lebbeck [A. lebbek]. Each of the supplements increased DM intake, DM digestibility and liveweight gain, the green leaves and fallen flowers being most effective. All supplements gave more wool growth than did the basal diet given alone.
