Abstract

Intake of woody resources in an oak coppice by ewes in summer.

Abstract

Flocks of 50 and 150 non-lactating ewes were grazed on 1 ha of poor grass in an oak coppice (Quercus pubescens, Pinus nigra, Genista cinerea and Amelanchier ovalis were present) at 300 ewes/ha for 6 and 2 days, respectively. Time spent eating bushes reached 60% of grazing time and increased with increasing stocking rate.
