Abstract

Mussidia nigrivenella Ragonot (Pyralidae, Phycitinae): a little known cotton pest.

Abstract

Observations of larvae found in the fruiting bodies of cotton plants in Togo in 1988 and 1989 led to the identification of the pyralid Mussidia nigrivenella. The pyralid was found at Kouve, Elavagnon, Asrama, Notsé and at the IRCT station. Its importance on maize and cotton in Togo is specified, and morphological characters for distinguishing the larvae and pupae from those of the tortricid Cryptophlebia leucotreta (which also infests both crops in Togo) are described.
