Invasive Species Compendium

Detailed coverage of invasive species threatening livelihoods and the environment worldwide

Abstract

A new polygynous Lasius species (Hymenoptera; Formicidae) from Central Europe I. Description and general biology.

Abstract

Lasius neglectus sp. nov. is described from Hungary. This species is polygynous, without apparent colony barriers. Nuptial flights were not apparent and intra-nidal mating was observed. Large numbers of workers foraged on aphids in trees. It is argued that the late discovery of this species may be due to its introduction to Hungary from an unidentified source.
