Abstract

Sporobolus (Gramineae) in Malesia.

Abstract

A key is given to the 10 species of Sporobolus found in Malesia; 2 of these are newly described (S. amaliae from Timor in which the lodicules have an acute apex and S. novoguineensis which resembles S. balansae but has longer ligules, hairy leaf blades and more lobed panicles with spaced whorls, smaller spikelets and smaller seeds). S. indicus contains var. capensis, var. cinereo-viridis var. nov., var. creber, var. flaccidus (was S. diandrus), var. major (was S. fertilis) and var. pyramidalis (includes S. jacquemontii). S. laxus from Queensland is regarded as S. indicus var. queenslandicus, and S. tremulus is renamed S. humilis subsp. minor. S. poiretii is a synonym of S. junceus. The correct name for Thysanolaena maxima is T. latifolia.
