Abstract

Cytology and distribution pattern of woody species of Verbenaceae in Palni hills.

Abstract

Chromosomal information (numbers, size, secondary associations and ploidy) and distribution patterns are reported and discussed from a study of 16 species in the Palni hills, Tamil Nadu. The species were: Clerodendron [Clerodendrum] infortunatum, C. serratum, Gmelina arborea, Holmskioldia sanguinea, Lantana aculeata, L. camara, L. indica, L. montevidens, L. wightiana, Nyctanthes arbor[-]tristis, Premna tomentosa, Symphorema involucratum, S. polyandrum, Vitex altissima, V. pubescens and V. negundo. In Lantana, the tetraploid species had a wider distribution range than the diploid or hexaploid species.
