Erwinia amylovora - causal agent of fireblight on rosaceous plants in Czechoslovakia.
Based on morphological, cultural, biochemical and serological characteristics, bacteria isolated from infected Crataegus monogyna and Cotoneaster dammeri in Prague in 1986 were identified as E. amylovora, with characteristics similar to those of str. ATCC 15580. Pathogenicity was confirmed by inoculation of pear fruits and tobacco plants. Isolates reacted with E. amylovora antisera obtained from the German Democratic Republic and from Denmark. This is the first record of the pathogen in Czechoslovakia.
