Abstract

The damage caused to olive by pests and diseases is reviewed. The main insect pests discussed are Dacus oleae [Bactrocera oleae], Saissetia oleae, Aspidiotus nerii, Parlatoria oleae, Lepidosaphes ulmi and Pollinia pollini; other pests are Prays oleae, Liothrips oleae and Rhynchites ruber. The main diseases are Gloeosporium olivarum, Macrophoma dalmatica, Sphaeropsis dalmatica, Cycloconium oleaginum [Spilocaea oleaginea], Capnodium oleaeophilum and Pseudomonas [syringae pv.] savastonoi.
