Numbers of spermatophores and mature eggs retained by field-collected female adults of the peach fruit moth, Carposina niponensis Walsingham (Lepidoptera: Carposinidae).
A total of 23 adult females of Carposina nipponensis auct. [C. sasakii] was trapped in the field in Japan a few days after the peak catch in pheromone traps. The females contained 1 to 4 spermatophores and 20 to 353 mature eggs. The number of mature eggs tended to decrease with increase in spermatophore number. It is suggested that repeated copulation occurred during the oviposition period in the field.
