Invasive Species Compendium

Detailed coverage of invasive species threatening livelihoods and the environment worldwide

Abstract

Studies on inter-specific competition, host range and ecology of parasites of Lymantria obfuscata in India and use of promising parasites for biological control of Lymantria spp. in India and the USA.

Abstract

This report contains the results of a project carried out in Jammu and Kashmir, India, between 1985 and 1988, to investigate the ecology and behaviour of parasitoids/pathogens (including entomophilic nematodes and entomogenous fungi) of Lymantria obfuscata, a pest of forest and fruit tree in India, with particular reference to aggressiveness, general mobility, searching capacity, adaptation to ecological conditions, host range and reproductive potential and interspecific competition between natural enemies. Exchange of organisms between India and the USA (for trial against L. dispar) was also attempted.
