Abstract

Farinocystis tribolii-induced susceptibility to some insecticides in Tribolium castaneum larvae.

Abstract

Probit analysis of dose-mortality response of healthy and Farinocystis tribolii-infected larvae of the tenebrionid stored products pest Tribolium castaneum showed that infection significantly increased the susceptibility of host larvae to malathion, chlorpyrifos, fenvalerate and cypermethrin. The reduced food consumption and weight of infected larvae, with the consequent reduction in total carbohydrates, protein and lipids, and their possible role in increasing the susceptibility of the larvae to the insecticides are discussed.
