Abstract

Cutaneous leishmaniasis due to Leishmania tropica in a young Moroccan child observed in Nice, France.

Abstract

L. tropica was isolated in November 1987 in France from a child born in Morocco in January 1986 and who moved to France in November 1986. Numerous amastigotes and promastigotes were found in a skin biopsy. The isolate (MHOM/87/MA/LEM 1225) was identified as L. tropica zymodeme MON 102. This is thought to be the first report of L. tropica from Morocco.
