Abstract

Evaluation of antifeedant and repellent qualities of various neem (Azadirachta indica) formulations against Pieris brassicae L. larvae on cabbage and cauliflower.

Abstract

Seed kernel suspension (at 0.1, 0.2 and 0.4%), oil emulsion (at 0.2, 0.4 and 0.8%) and leaf water extract (0.5, 1.0 and 2.0%) of neem (Azadirachta indica) were evaluated for their repellent effect against 2nd- and 3rd-instar larvae of Pieris brassicae on cabbages and cauliflowers in pot and field trials in Himachal Pradesh, India. All 3 concentrations of seed kernel suspension and oil emulsion and 2% leaf water extract had a significant antifeedant effect, reducing the mean leaf area consumed by 40-50%.
