Invasive Species Compendium

Detailed coverage of invasive species threatening livelihoods and the environment worldwide

Abstract

Scale insects of Central Europe.

Abstract

The primary objectives of this book are to enable interested workers who are not specialists on scale insects to recognize and identify them to family, genera and species; and to provide information on the life cycle, host plant range, natural enemies, geographic distribution and economic importance of each known species from Central Europe, and to provide a bibliography on each taxon covered. The book is divided into 2 parts. The first, a general part, contains sections on morphology, biology, genetics, phylogeny, ecology, geographic distribution, economic importance, forecasting and control, and collecting, preserving, mounting and rearing. The second (systematic) part, contains keys to suborders, superfamilies, families, genera and species, and 233 species are dealt with in detail. For each species, bibliographic references are provided together with information on morphology, distribution, biology, host plants and natural enemies. Indexes are provided to host plants; parasites, predators, ants and other associated organisms; and scale insect names. A list of countries is provided with references to the scale insect species occurring in each.
