Recent approaches for chemical control of broomrape (Orobanche spp.).
A brief description is given of the growth and development of Orobanche spp., followed by a discussion of control methods for this weed including, soil fumigation or solarization, stimulation or inhibition of seed germination, the use of ethylene, strigol and its analogues, other growth regulators, soil- and foliage-applied herbicides and genetic engineering to produce crop plants resistant to glyphosate and other herbicides. An appendix on the taxonomy of economically important Orobanche spp. is included.
