Aspects of the autecology of Tridax procumbens, a prevalent weed of croplands in southern Nigeria.
Germination rate of T. procumbens was highest (approx. 82%) for seeds kept on the soil surface under diffuse light. Germination rate decreased directly with depth of seed burial. Seedlings attained max. increments in height and biomass after 12 weeks, after which the growth rate declined. Shoot:root DW and NAR both peaked at 12 weeks, whereas RGR and leaf area ratio (total leaf area/whole plant DW) peaked at 6 and 4 weeks, resp.
