Invasive Species Compendium

Detailed coverage of invasive species threatening livelihoods and the environment worldwide

Abstract

The false spider mites of Mexico (Tenuipalpidae: Acari).

Abstract

This bulletin includes descriptions and illustrations for 165 species of plant-feeding tenuipalpids of Mexico, 65 of which are described as new. Less than one-third (48) of the Mexican tenuipalpids are distributed in 8 genera, and over two-thirds (117) are in the genus Brevipalpus. Keys to subfamilies, genera, species groups and species are provided, and descriptions, illustrations, host plants and distribution data are given for each species. The fauna is examined principally by analysis of the morphological characters, distribution, and host plants, and an introduction to the classification of the Neotropical Tenuipalpidae is outlined. An appendix is included which lists the tenuipalpid species found on various host plants.
