Population density, biomass and secondary net production of coleopterans in a tropical grassland.
The population dynamics, biomass and secondary net production of Coleoptera were studied in mixed grassland and grassland dominated by Desmostachya bipinnata (stand 1 and 2, respectively) in Haryana, India, from June 1976 to May 1978. A total of 30 species belonging to the Carabidae, Staphylinidae, Coccinellidae, Tenebrionidae, Chrysomelidae, Lamiinae and Curculionidae was collected. The maximum density was 1.6/m2 in both stands. Maximum biomass was 20.7 and 50.8 mg/m2 on stands 1 and 2, respectively, and the cumulative secondary net production was 49.73 and 95.26 mg/m2.
