Abstract

A population explosion of Aphis craccivora Koch (Homoptera: Aphididae) in cowpeas protected with cypermethrin.

Abstract

A population explosion of Aphis craccivora on cowpea [Vigna unguiculata] vars. H113-1 and Vita 5 following application of cypermethrin at 30 g a.i./ha is reported in Akure, Nigeria, in 1986. Cypermethrin adversely affected coccinellid and syrphid predators, and it is suggested that this may have been a contributory factor in the population explosion of the pest.
