Abstract

New record of coccinellid predatory beetles attacking sugarcane scale Melanaspis glomerata Green (Hemiptera: Coccidae) in Plassey (West Bengal) India.

Abstract

A survey of the natural enemies of the diaspidid Melanaspis glomerata was conducted in sugarcane plantations in West Bengal, India, in February 1983. Of 6 coccinellids found, Chilocorus nigrita, Sticholotis quadrisignata and Pharoscymnus horni were the most dominant species. Rhyzobius coeruleipennis [R. lophanthae], Nephus sp., S. quadrisignata and Brumoides suturalis were recorded as predators of M. glomerata for the first time in India.
