Abstract

Reproduction and application of Ontsina sp.

Abstract

The reproduction of the braconid Ontsira sp. on larvae of the cerambycids Stromatium longicorne, Monochamus alternatus, Semanotus bifasciatus sinoauster, Callidium villosulum, Xystrocera globosa, Saperda populnea and Anoplophora chinensis was studied in the laboratory. Stromatium longicorne, M. alternatus and A. chinensis were the most suitable hosts for rearing the parasitoid. The optimum conditions for rearing were 23-28°C and 70% RH. Cages containing host larvae parasitized by Ontsira sp. were hung in forests of Cunninghamia lanceolata in Guangdong, China, and gave 92.6% control of Semanotus b. sinauster. The morphology, life cycle and behaviour of the parasitoid, and techniques for its rearing and release are described.
