Invasive Species Compendium

Detailed coverage of invasive species threatening livelihoods and the environment worldwide

Abstract

Seed-seed predator interactions of European beech, Fagus silvatica and forest rodents, Clethrionomys glareolus and Apodemus flavicollis.

Abstract

Field and laboratory experiments in Denmark showed that seeds removed by rodents were cached 1-13 m from the point of fall and caches contained on av. 5.0 seeds. Typical burial seeds were a few cm below the soil surface and led to higher germination since seeds deposited in the litter were killed by frost or drought.
