Abstract

Downy mildew of sunflower in India.

Abstract

Plasmopara halstedii was found on commercial crops in Maharashtra for the first time in the sub-continent. Strict quarantine measures had excluded the disease for 15 yr, during which sunflower was established as a commercial crop. Incidence of the outbreak on cv. Morden was 1.3-10.8%. The results are reported of inoculation trials with several cultivars, male sterile lines and hybrids.
