Abstract

Selective postemergence herbicides for grass control in sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.).

Abstract

In field trials in 1983-84, 0.2 kg sethoxydim, 0.6 kg xylofop-ethyl (ethyl-2-[4-(6-chloro-2-quinoxalinyloxy)phenoxy]propionate), 0.3 kg haloxyfop, 0.6 kg fluazifop-butyl or 0.6 kg a.i. CGA-82725 [chlorazifop] applied to sunflowers cv. Interstate 7775 and Stauffer 3101 13-16 days after sowing, when plants were at the 4- to 5-leaf stage and Digitaria sanguinalis and Echinochloa crus-galli at the 3- to 4-leaf stages, gave good to excellent control of the grasses and did little or no harm to sunflowers. No herbicide greatly affected seed yield, weight or test weight, head diam. or plant height of sunflower.
