Common weeds of East Africa.
Species which are common or serious weeds in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda are described using technical terms which are explained in the glossary. Vernacular names compiled from several sources are given. English names are indicated by (E), others by their tribal origin. Inflorescences are shown in colour photographs, while other diagnostic features such as leaf shape in dicots and ligules in grasses, are displayed in line drawings. The seedlings of most species are also illustrated. A bibliography is provided giving information on the biology, distribution and control of weeds in E. Africa. A map showing the geographical divisions of E. Africa is given.
