Abstract

Competition of Echinochloa crus-galli and maize in southern regions of Poland.

Abstract

Following the successful control of broadleaved weeds with triazine, E. crus-galli has become a major problem in maize in S. Poland. Trials during 1981-83 showed that delaying the removal of E. crus-galli seedlings 2, 3, 4 and 5 weeks after emergence reduced the yield of maize by 28, 56, 65 and 80%, resp. On the basis of these results it is recommended that E. crus-galli be controlled as soon as practicable, certainly before the 3- to 4-leaf stage.
