Abstract

The author provides an account of a visit to China in August 1986 to study the culture of apples and pears, their pests and diseases, and to help lay the foundations for setting up agricultural warning stations. Current practices in the Province of Shaanxi are described. Arthropod pests met with included Toxoptera piricola [Schizaphis piricola], Nephopterix pirivorella [Numonia pirivorella], Stephanitis nashi, Cryptotympana atrata, Carposina niponensis and Amphitetranychus viennensis [Tetranychus viennensis]; diseases met with included scab, Marssonina mali and Valsa mali.
