Abstract

The biology of Canadian weeds. 77. Echinochloa crus-galli (L.) Beauv.

Abstract

Barnyard grass (Echinochloa crus-galli) is an annual grass and a cosmopolitan weed. In Canada, it occurs in the prairies and is widely distributed along roadsides and in cultivated fields. In this review, a summary of biological information on the grass is presented. Responses to herbicides and other chemicals are dealt with, as are insects, fungi, nematodes and viruses that attack E. crus-galli. The possibility of biological control is briefly discussed.
