Abstract

Prevalence of bee and brood diseases in Bosnia and Hercegovina in the period 1980-1984.

Abstract

In 1980 there were 21 × 104 hives and 10 million kg of honey produced, whereas in 1984 there was a decline to 14.8 × 104 hives and 770 000 kg of honey produced. From 1980 to 1983 American foul brood was found in 129-397 hives annually and in 1984 in 152; nosema disease was diagnosed in 55-290 hives annually in 1980-1983 and in 459 in 1984. Varroa was first found in 1980 in 87 hives; 59, 129, 448 and 451 hives were affected in 1981-1984, respectively. Varroasis was estimated to be the reason for 50% of the reduction in hive numbers.
