Detailed coverage of invasive species threatening livelihoods and the environment worldwide

Abstract

The dominant aquatic weeds in Peninsular Malaysia.

Abstract

Surveys carried out in Peninsular Malaysia showed that Eichhornia crassipes, Salvinia molesta, Lemna perpusilla and Hydrilla verticillata predominated in the small rivers and irrigation canals of the rice growing areas where the leaching of fertilizers has led to dense weed infestation. Numerous patches of E. crassipes were evident in the Perak, Kelang and Krian rivers. Eleocharis dulcis was a dominant weed in the E. coast states, while Mimosa pigra is considered to be a threat throughout Peninsular Malaysia.
